SCRIPTURE

"but in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth." — Exodus 9:16 (ASV)

Indeed, for this purpose have I raised you up. —Rather, but truly on this account have I made you stand—that is, kept you alive, not for your deserts, not even in pity, but only for to show in you My power.

You have provoked Me so that long ago you would have been cut off from the earth, except that My glory will be all the more shown forth by your continuance in life, and by the further plagues and punishments to which you will be subjected.

That my name may be declared. —Compare to Exodus 14:17; Exodus 15:14–16, and other similar passages.
