"And it was made with cherubim and palm-trees; and a palm-tree was between cherub and cherub, and every cherub had two faces;" — Ezekiel 41:18 (ASV)
With cherubims and palm trees. —Ezekiel 41:18–21 describe the interior ornamentation of the Temple, which was like that of the Temple of Solomon (1 Kings 6:29–30). It may be assumed that here, as there, these figures were carved on the woodwork. The "s" at the end of "cherubims" is quite unnecessary, as "cherubim" itself is plural.
Every cherub had two faces. — In Ezekiel 1:10, the cherubim are represented each with four faces; but, being merely symbolic and not actual creatures, they may be modified freely, and thus here, in accordance with the requirements of the carving, they have only two faces.
