SCRIPTURE

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." — Galatians 6:7 (ASV)

Be not deceived; God is not mocked.—It is all very well for you to make grand professions that you do not live up to. These may deceive others, but do not let them deceive yourselves. Do not think that God will allow you to mock Him in this way.

It might seem, perhaps, as if the language of this warning were almost too solemn for the occasion (an encouragement to generosity towards teachers), but the Apostle has in mind the broader scope he will give to his treatment of the subject. In this—and indeed in all this—with what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again.

Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.—Compare especially 2 Corinthians 9:6: This I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully, where the same metaphor is used in reference to the same thing—generosity in almsgiving.
