"And also of the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed." — Genesis 21:13 (ASV)

The son of the bondwoman. — Hebrew, of the handmaid. Hagar is never acknowledged as Abraham’s wife, though her child, as Abraham’s son, receives a noble promise for the father’s sake.
