"And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him." — Genesis 37:35 (ASV)
Into the grave. — Hebrew, Sheol, which, like Hades in Greek, means the place of departed spirits. Jacob supposed that Joseph had been devoured by wild beasts, and as he was not buried, the father could not have gone down into the grave unto his son. (Compare Note on Genesis 15:15.)
