"And the man, the lord of the land, said unto us, Hereby shall I know that ye are true men: leave one of your brethren with me, and take [grain for] the famine of your houses, and go your way;" — Genesis 42:33 (ASV)
Leave one of your brethren. —While acknowledging that the lord of Egypt had spoken “hard things” with them, they do not mention that Simeon was left in bonds, nor even the harsher part of the treatment they had experienced, so that Jacob would not be afraid to send Benjamin on their next visit.
