SCRIPTURE

"And when Jacob made an end of charging his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people." — Genesis 49:33 (ASV)

He gathered up his feet into the bed.—This seems to indicate that the events recorded in Genesis chapters 48 and 49 all took place at the same time. In Genesis 48:2, we read that Jacob strengthened himself for this great final effort, seating himself on the bed and placing his feet on the ground. (See Genesis 49:12.) And now that all was over, wearied by what must have greatly strained both his feelings and his physical powers, he gathered himself together on the bed, and probably soon afterwards peaceably passed away to his eternal rest.
