SCRIPTURE

"By faith Joseph, when his end was nigh, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones." — Hebrews 11:22 (ASV)

When he died.—Literally, drawing to his end. The word is taken from Genesis 50:26, and the mention of the departure (literally, the Exodus) of the children of Israel is found in Hebrews 11:24-25. This example of faith in the promise and clinging to the hope which it offered needs no comment. For the fulfillment of Joseph’s dying request, see Exodus 13:19, Moses took the bones of Joseph with him out of Egypt; and Joshua 24:32, And the bones of Joseph buried they in Shechem.
