SCRIPTURE

"As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest." — Hebrews 3:11 (ASV)

So.—Rather, as (Hebrews 4:3). It is with these as it was with their fathers, the generations that came out of Egypt, to whom God swore, They shall not enter into My rest (Numbers 14:21–24).

The form in which these words appear below (Hebrews 4:3; Hebrews 4:5) in the Authorized Version, If they shall enter into my rest, is an imitation of the original construction. See Numbers 14:23, where they shall not see is, as the margin shows, expressed in Hebrew by if they (shall) see the land.

Into my rest.—Into the land where Jehovah will give rest to His people and will dwell with them (1 Kings 8:56; Psalms 132:14; Isaiah 66:1; 1 Chronicles 6:31; 2 Chronicles 6:41).
