Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Now these things having been thus prepared, the priests go in continually into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the services;" — Hebrews 9:6 (ASV)
Now when these things were so ordained...—Better: And when these things have been so prepared, into the first tabernacle the priests enter continually, accomplishing the services.
As has already been observed (Hebrews 9:2), the present tense is used throughout these verses (Hebrews 9:6–10), not because the writer is referring to the services as still continuing, but because he is still tracing the ordinance of Scripture. He speaks of the Tabernacle alone. The words of Hebrews 9:4 would have been entirely incorrect regarding the temple of his day, in which the Most Holy Place was empty.
The service.—Compare Exodus 30:7-8; Leviticus 24:1–8.
