Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to [him that is] on high, none at all will exalt [him]." — Hosea 11:7 (ASV)
No imagery is used, such as that of an unfaithful wife, a recalcitrant heifer, or a baker piling fuel for a furnace, but rather plain, literal, and commonplace expressions. The people were called by sufficient means to the highest worship, but they were bent on the lowest.
