SCRIPTURE

"Let favor be showed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness will he deal wrongfully, and will not behold the majesty of Jehovah." — Isaiah 26:10 (ASV)

Let favour be shewed to the wicked ... —The thought of Isaiah 26:9 is presented under another aspect. The judgments of God manifested against evil are the only discipline by which the doers of evil can be taught; without them, under a system of mere tolerance and favour, they remain as they are. In the very land of uprightness (Psalms 143:10) they will still work unrighteousness. “The mind is its own place,” and can make a hell of heaven itself. The eyes that see the majesty of the Lord are those of the pure in heart (Matthew 5:8).
