"Wherefore hear the word of Jehovah, ye scoffers, that rule this people that is in Jerusalem:" — Isaiah 28:14 (ASV)

You scornful men, that rule this people ... —The last words emphasize the fact that the men who derided the prophet in their worldly wisdom were found among Hezekiah’s chief princes and counselors, the partisans now of an Assyrian, now of an Egyptian alliance—anything rather than the policy of righteousness and repentance.
