Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward." — Isaiah 37:31 (ASV)
And the remnant that is escaped. —We note the “remnant” of the familiar formula of Isaiah’s earlier days. The name of Shear-jashub had not ceased to be an omen of good (Isaiah 7:3). And that remnant should be as the shoot from which the fine tree of the future should spring in due course (Isaiah 6:13).
