"O Lord, by these things men live; And wholly therein is the life of my spirit: Wherefore recover thou me, and make me to live." — Isaiah 38:16 (ASV)

By these things ... —that is, by the word of God and the performance which fulfils it. For “in all these things,” read wholly through them. The words remind us of Deuteronomy 8:3, Man doth not live by bread alone ....
