SCRIPTURE
"All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity." — Isaiah 40:17 (ASV)
Less than nothing. —Literally, as things of nothing.
Vanity. —Once more the tohu, or chaos, of Genesis 1:2 —one of Isaiah’s favourite phrases (Isaiah 24:10; Isaiah 29:21; Isaiah 34:11).
