"The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not die [and go down] into the pit, neither shall his bread fail." — Isaiah 51:14 (ASV)
The captive exile. —Literally, he that is bowed down, that is, bound in fetters. The “pit,” as in the case of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 38:6), is the underground dungeon, in which the prisoner was too often left to starve.
