"For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee." — Isaiah 54:7 (ASV)

For a small moment. — Historically, the words point to the seventy years of exile as being only a transient interruption of the manifestation of the everlasting mercies. Spiritually, they have wider and manifold fulfillments in the history of individuals, of the Church, of mankind.
