SCRIPTURE

"and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday;" — Isaiah 58:10 (ASV)

Draw out your soul. —These words have been interpreted as meaning:

  1. Giving up sensuous desires for the sake of others;
  2. Ministering of your substance;
  3. Extending your sympathy.

On the whole, the third interpretation seems preferable.

Then shall your light rise. —We note the recurrence of the imagery of Isaiah 9:2.
