SCRIPTURE

"I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that are Jehovah`s remembrancers, take ye no rest," — Isaiah 62:6 (ASV)

I have set watchmen upon your walls... — The “watchmen” have been interpreted as:

  1. Angelic guardians.
  2. Prophets.
Zechariah 1:12, and Daniel 10:16-21 may be argued in favor of the first interpretation, but on the whole, the second seems preferable. The prophets of the return from exile, Zechariah, Haggai, Malachi, may be thought of as representative examples of such “watchmen,” as are also the prophets of the Christian Church, which, at least in part, takes the position of the new Jerusalem.

You that make mention... — Or better, you that are the remembrancers. They are to remind Jehovah of His promises day and night, so that He may hasten their fulfillment, never resting until the future Jerusalem is truly a praise in the earth. .
