Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"The voice of tidings, behold, it cometh, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling-place of jackals." — Jeremiah 10:22 (ASV)
Behold, the noise of the bruit is come. — A better rendering is, A cry is heard, Behold, it cometh. The cry of terror is heard, and it utters the news, terrible in its brevity, that the army of the invader has come. With it comes the “great commotion”—the stir and rush of the army—arriving from the north country of the Chaldeans .
In Matthew 25:6, There was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh, we find a striking parallel.
The word “bruit” (used here and in Nahum 3:19) can be noted as one that has become obsolete since the Authorized Version was published.
A den of dragons. — That is, jackals, as in Jeremiah 9:11.
