SCRIPTURE

"But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah." — Jeremiah 2:28 (ASV)

Where are your gods ...? —The question is asked in indignant scorn. “You made the gods, and yet they cannot profit you.” Though every city had its tutelary deity, there was none found to deliver. The Septuagint adds, as in Jeremiah 11:13, the words according to the number of the streets in Jerusalem they sacrificed to Baal.
