SCRIPTURE

"I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice." — Jeremiah 22:21 (ASV)

In your prosperity. —Literally, prosperities. The word is used, as in Proverbs 1:32, Ezekiel 16:49, and Psalms 30:6, in reference to what in old English was called “security,” the careless, reckless temper engendered by outward prosperity. The plural is used to include all the forms of that temper that had been manifested in the course of centuries.
