"that think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers forgat my name for Baal." — Jeremiah 23:27 (ASV)

As their fathers have forgotten ... — The two evils of open idolatry and false claims to prophecy were, the prophet seems to say, on the same footing. The misuse of the name of Jehovah by the false prophets was as bad as the older worship of Baal and prophesying in his name. .
