"I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved to and fro." — Jeremiah 4:24 (ASV)

The mountains, and, lo, they trembled.— The great earthquake in the days of Uzziah (Amos 1:1), of which we find traces in Isaiah (Isaiah 24:19–20), had probably made imagery of this kind familiar.
