"and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith Jehovah." — Jeremiah 46:26 (ASV)
Afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days ... —As in the earlier utterance of Isaiah (Isaiah 19:21–25) and the contemporary prophecies of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 29:11–16) there is a gleam of hope at the end of the vision of judgment. Egypt was to revive, though not again to take its place among the conquerors and tyrants of the world. (Jeremiah 49:39.)
