"Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith Jehovah, him that offereth in the high place, and him that burneth incense to his gods." — Jeremiah 48:35 (ASV)

I will cause to cease in Moab ... —The words indicate that the pilgrimages to the sanctuary of Chemosh, on the mountains of Moab, were a prominent feature in the nation’s life. One result of the Chaldean conquest would be that they should be brought to an end.
