"And the proud one shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all that are round about him." — Jeremiah 50:32 (ASV)

And the most proud shall stumble ... —As before, Pride. The gender of the pronoun in none shall raise him up is determined by that of the Hebrew noun. The words provide a striking illustration of the teaching of Proverbs 16:18.
