Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; And the cloud is not rent under them." — Job 26:8 (ASV)
He binds up the waters. —The idea of the waters being bound up in the clouds, so that the clouds are not torn by them, is similar to that in Genesis 1:7. The conception is that of a vast treasury of water above the visible sky, which is kept there in apparent defiance of what we know as the laws of gravitation, and which all experience would show was liable to fall by itself.
