Charles Ellicott Commentary John 11:45

"Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him." — John 11:45 (ASV)

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen...—Better, Many therefore of the Jews, which had come to Mary and seen... The comma should be placed after the word Jews. The Greek cannot mean, “Then many of the Jews, i.e., of those which came to Mary.” It must mean, “Many therefore of the Jews, i.e., all those which had come to Mary.”

The miracle is so utterly beyond all their conceptions that it carries conviction to every heart and leaves no further possibility of doubt. They are called those “which had come to Mary,” because they had remained with her after Martha had gone to meet our Lord and had followed her when she herself went.
