Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest`s servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant`s name was Malchus." — John 18:10 (ASV)
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it...—Compare to the note on Matthew 26:51. The fact is recorded by all the Evangelists. Saint John only tells us that it was done by Peter, and that the servant’s name was Malchus. He is also careful to note, as Saint Luke does too, that it was the “right ear.”
