Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim." — John 2:7 (ASV)
Fill the waterpots.—It is implied that the pitchers were wholly or partly empty, as the water in them had been used for the ceremonial washings before the feast. Those commanded are the servants (John 2:5). Up to the brim marks the willing care with which the command was obeyed, and an expectation throughout the household that some work would be performed.
