Charles Ellicott Commentary
"As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me." — John 6:57 (ASV)
I live by the Father . . . he shall live by me.—The preposition “by” here is ambiguous, and it is better, therefore, to render the words, I live by reason of the Father . . . he shall live by reason of Me. For the thought of the Father as the original source of life, and as giving this principle of life to the Son, compare the Note on John 5:26. He who takes the Son into his own being, in the same way receives this principle of life from Him.
