Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me." — John 7:33 (ASV)
Then said Jesus to them.—It should rather be, Therefore said Jesus. He said this because they sent to take Him. The better manuscripts omit “to them,” and it is clear, from John 7:35, that the words are addressed to the hierarchy generally.
Yet a little while am I with you.—Their action is the first attempt to take Him by force. It brings to His mind the thought that the end is near. But a little while more, and the hour will have come. The manifestation of God’s love to man will then be completed in its crowning sacrifice, and when the work of His mission is completed, He will return to Him that sent Him.
