"They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?" — John 9:10 (ASV)

How were thine eyes opened?—They wonder at the change wrought in him, and seek to know how it happened. The question is important if we adopt the better reading, beggar, for “blind,” in John 9:8, since it shows that they knew he had been blind the moment they knew that he was the same person who used to sit and beg.
