SCRIPTURE

"When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, into thy holy temple." — Jonah 2:7 (ASV)

Fainted. —Literally, covered itself. Compare Jonah 4:8. (Psalms 142:3; Psalms 143:4, where the same Hebrew word is rendered overwhelmed. compare Psalms 107:5.) Here, apparently, we are to think of the blinding mist of death slowly stealing over sight and sense.

Into your holy temple. —See Jonah 2:4, and compare Psalms 18:6.
