"And the man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he lodged there again." — Judges 19:7 (ASV)
His father in law urged him. — Considering the remorselessly savage revenge which is to this day permitted to an Eastern husband in punishment of unfaithfulness, the father might well desire to be thoroughly assured that the Levite was not dissembling, and did not desire to inflict some sanguinary retribution on his wife.
