"And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them." — Judges 3:27 (ASV)
He blew a trumpet. —The word for “trumpet” is shophar. The Septuagint has he trumpeted with a horn (Esalpisen en keratine).
In the mountain of Ephraim. —The hill country of Ephraim was always the stronghold of Israelite freedom (Judges 4:5; Judges 10:1; 1 Samuel 1:1; 1 Samuel 13:6; 1 Samuel 14:22).
He before them. —He assumed the leadership.
