"And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech." — Judges 9:42 (ASV)

Set the hold on fire. —The words of Jotham (Judges 9:20) had proved prophetic. (For a similar incident see 1 Kings 16:18 —Zimri burnt in the palace at Tirzah.)

Died. —The Vulgate renders it, Were killed with the smoke and fire.
