Charles Ellicott Commentary Lamentations 3:51

"Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city." — Lamentations 3:51 (ASV)

Affecteth. —Better, harms, or causes grief to.

The daughters of my city. —The words have been understood as referring to:

1. The maidens of Jerusalem (Lamentations 1:18; Lamentations 2:20–21).
2. The daughter-towns which looked to it as their metropolis.

Of these, the first interpretation is preferable.
