"He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead." — Lamentations 3:6 (ASV)
He has set me in dark places. —A verbal reproduction of Psalm 143:3. The “dark places” are those of hell or Hades. The phrase dead of old should be understood as dead eternally or dead for ever, where the adverb looks forward rather than back.
