Charles Ellicott Commentary Lamentations 4:16

"The anger of Jehovah hath scattered them; he will no more regard them: They respected not the persons of the priests, they favored not the elders." — Lamentations 4:16 (ASV)

The anger of the Lord. —Literally, the face, as the symbol of wrath.

They did not respect. —The subject of these verbs must be supplied. The enemies, or the heathen, or men in general, ceased to feel any reverence for the fugitive priests and elders.
