SCRIPTURE

"For I am Jehovah that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." — Leviticus 11:45 (ASV)

That brings you up out of the land of Egypt. —Having in a marvelous way delivered them from the land of bondage to be their God in a special sense (Compare 2 Samuel 7:23), the Holy One of Israel had a special claim upon His redeemed people that they should obey His laws and keep themselves holy as their Redeemer.

This significant act of redemption is repeatedly appealed to in the Scriptures, both to show the obligations that the Israelites are under to obey God’s commandments and to expose their ingratitude (Deuteronomy 8:14; Deuteronomy 13:6; Deuteronomy 20:1; Joshua 24:17; Judges 2:12, etc.).
