"Profane not thy daughter, to make her a harlot; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness." — Leviticus 19:29 (ASV)

Do not prostitute thy daughter.—This refers to the degrading worship of Astarte which prevailed in ancient times, and which at times also broke out among the Jews.
