"and [so] cause them to bear the iniquity that bringeth guilt, when they eat their holy things: for I am Jehovah who sanctifieth them." — Leviticus 22:16 (ASV)
Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass. —Better, Moreover, they shall not cause them to bear the iniquity. That is, not only are the priests themselves prohibited from profaning the sacred gifts, but they must also realize it is their duty to guard these sacrifices so carefully that they do not cause the Israelites to incur sin by transgressing the laws by eating holy things placed in their way through the priests' culpable negligence.
