"And ye shall do no manner of work in that same day; for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before Jehovah your God." — Leviticus 23:28 (ASV)
And you shall do no work. —Better, And you shall do no manner of work, as the Authorized Version has it in Leviticus 23:31 of this very chapter. (See Leviticus 16:29.) This is the only day which had to be kept like the Sabbath, and on which no manner of work was allowed. (See Leviticus 23:3.)
To make an atonement for you. —See Leviticus 16:30.
