Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Ye shall do no manner of work: it is a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings." — Leviticus 23:31 (ASV)
Ye shall do no manner of work. —Owing to the great sanctity of the day, the command to abstain from all work is repeated after the enactment of the penalty, in order to impress it more effectually upon the people.
A statute for ever... —See Leviticus 3:17; Leviticus 7:23–25.
