"And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth." — Luke 1:14 (ASV)

Many shall rejoice.—The words point to what had been the priest’s prayer. He had been seeking the joy of many rather than his own, and now that seeking was to bear fruit in his own joy.
