"And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:" — Luke 13:8 (ASV)
And dung it.—Literally, and put dung. Homely as the imagery is, it suggests fertilising and gracious influences not less vividly than the dew or rain from heaven, and points, perhaps, specifically to those that are working on us in our earthly surroundings, as contrasted with the directly supernatural action of God’s grace.
