"and if it bear fruit thenceforth, [well]; but if not, thou shalt cut it down." — Luke 13:9 (ASV)
And if it bear fruit.—Some of the better manuscripts have, if it bear fruit in the time to come ... With either reading, the sentence is elliptical, and the insertion of “well,” as in the English, is needed to convey its meaning.
